Pit bulls have killed a man and seriously injured a woman during a vicious attack in the Southern California desert.
Riverside County sheriff's deputies were called to the community of North Shore on Tuesday morning and found a man dead in the front yard of a home.
Officers said they then heard a cry for help from a woman who was being attacked by two dogs nearby.

Their patrol car lights and siren scared off the animals.
The woman was hospitalized for major injuries. There's no word on her condition. The pair have not yet been identified.
Authorities searched the area and captured two dogs — including an aggressive animal that had to be tranquilized.
The Desert Sun of Palm Springs says authorities believe the dogs are pit bulls and the owners are being sought.
John Welsh, a spokesperson for the animal services department, said the owners will be hunted down and will likely be told to put down the dogs.
He added that in nine years of policing, he had only seen three fatal dog attacks.
